HOW DOES 2.5% – 5% BENZOYL PEROXIDE GEL WORK

Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% – 5% gel removes excess oil, hydrates your skin using advanced Acrylates Copolymer (AC) / glycerin proactive complex – tiny highly porous beads. These beads are so porous that they can absorb up to four times their own weight in fluid. Acrylates Copolymer beads soak up certain liquids quickly and easily, but they are selective about what they can absorb. They rapidly absorb oils, however, they can’t absorb water. The other ingredient in Persol AC® 2.5% – 5% Benzoyl Peroxide is glycerin. Glycerin lubricates the skin, making it smooth and soft. So whilst the Acrylates Copolymers (AC) absorb the excess oil that can carry bacteria, the glycerin helps hydrate and soften the skin.

When Acrylates Copolymer / Glycerin complex is applied to the face, the beads come in contact with lipids and skin oils, such as sebum, that have a high affinity for them. Sebum, because of its attraction to the beads, forces the glycerin out of the beads and onto the skin surface. The AC beads then absorb the sebum, effectively cleans and anticept / sterilize your face skin.

Persol AC® contains benzoyl peroxide 2.5% / 5%, a potent broad-spectrum antimicrobial with activity particularly against Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria that contributes to formation acne skin lesions. P-acnes is present in affected hair follicles since it normally exist on the skin without causing any problems, living on fatty acids in the sebum (oil) secreted by the sebaceous glands (oil producing glands in hair follicles of the skin). However, over-production of sebum causes the pores of the skin to become blocked and allows spread of the bacteria and this is how the pimples, whiteheads and blackheads (comedones) of acne form.

Benzoyl peroxide in Persol AC® 2.5% – 5% also has keratolytic activity, which means that it acts as peeling agent, increasing skin turnover by blocking the hardening processes of the outer skin layer (keratinisation and cornification) and promoting the shedding of old hardened skin cells, allowing new skin cells to take their place. Benzoyl peroxide in Persol AC® 2.5% – 5% Benzoyl Peroxide also has sebostatic properties and this prevents excessive sebum production associated with acne, which helps the skin lesions dry up and heal. By preventing the spread of infection and unclogging pores, Persol AC® 2.5% – 5% Benzoyl Peroxide helps reduce the existing skin lesions and prevents acne from spreading, while at the same time helping with the healing process.

BENEFITS OF PERSOL AC MODERATE BENZOYL PEROXIDE 5% GEL

Persol AC Benzoyl peroxide 5% Gel is a topical solution for treating mild to moderate acne. It also can be an effective adjunct therapy to other topical ointments or oral antibiotics in more severe cases of acne. Benzoyl peroxide 5% is available over the counter in okdermo skin care store. Products containing benzoyl peroxide 5% come in many forms including creams, gels, lotions, soaps and pads.

Decreases Oil Production: Benzoyl peroxide 5% may decrease the skin’s oil production. Overactive oil glands contribute to acne, because excess oil plugs pores, or hair follicles, and also prevents dead skin cells from sloughing away. A build-up of dead cells further clogs and irritates pores. Blocked pores turn into blackheads or whiteheads, and these can turn into the swollen red pus-filled bumps known as pimples. They also can develop into large painful cysts or nodules under the skin that can cause scarring.

Antibiotic Properties: Benzoyl peroxide 5% is a topical antibiotic and kills Propionibacterium acnes, or P. acnes, the bacteria that causes acne and also results in inflammation. P. acnes is anaerobic, meaning it cannot survive in an oxygenated environment. Benzoyl peroxide 5% is an oxidizing agent, and applying this substance moves oxygen into clogged pores and eliminates anaerobic bacteria. Benzoyl peroxide 5% is more effective at eliminating this bacteria than other topical solutions, including resorcinol, salicylic acid and sulfur. Some acne treatment products and systems combine benzoyl peroxide with one or more of these ingredients to increase effectiveness.

Mild Side Effects: Benzoyl peroxide 5% is not associated with any major side effects. Because the substance reduces oil production, dry skin as a side effect is common. This is usually mild and can be treated with a non-oily moisturizer. If skin irritation occurs, it is rarely severe. While benzoyl peroxide 5% decreases skin bacteria, it does not cause bacterial resistance as oral antibiotics do. Additionally, benzoyl peroxide 5% can reduce bacterial resistance that has developed due to taking oral antibiotics as acne therapy.

HOW TO USE 2.5% – 5% BENZOYL PEROXIDE GEL

You should apply your Persol AC® 2.5% – 5% or Benzac AC® Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% – 5% gel to the affected area of the skin once daily preferably in the evening before going to bed. Clean the skin with a mild soap or soap-free cleanser, rinse with water then apply a small amount with clean fingers and rub gently into the skin, leave on for 2 hours then rinse off. If after 3 days there is no discomfort, apply in the evening and allow to remain all night. This may be increased to twice daily if needed.

Do not use large amounts or apply more often than directed, as your skin will not clear up faster, instead, you may increase the chance for side effects like skin irritation. Avoid contact with the eyes, eyelids, inside of the nose and mouth, which are easily irritated areas, and use with caution on sensitive areas like the neck. If you get any gel on clothing it may cause bleaching. You should use your Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% – 5% ge daily for as long as is recommended, usually, it takes 4-8 weeks for your acne to clear up, sometimes several months.

AVOID USING 2.5% – 5% BENZOYL PEROXIDE GEL

You should not use Persol AC® 2.5% – 5% Benzoyl Peroxide gel if you:

  • Are allergic to benzoyl peroxide or any ingredients in Persol AC®;
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding without discussion with your dermatologist;
  • Use cosmetic products containing alcohol, abrasives or medicated soaps, as these may cause an extra irritant or drying effect.
