What is Atarax® Hydroxyzine Tablet

Hydroxyzine, sold under the brand names Atarax and Vistaril among others, is an antihistamine medication. It is used in the treatment of itchiness, insomnia, anxiety, and nausea, including that due to motion sickness. It is used either by mouth or injection into a muscle. Atarax® Hydroxyzine Tablet is an antihistaminic medication. In allergy, it works by blocking the action of a chemical messenger (histamine). This relieves allergy symptoms such as itching, swelling, and rashes. In short-term anxiety, it works by decreasing the activity in the brain, thereby helping you feel relaxed/sleepy.

Common side effects include sleepiness, headache, and a dry mouth. Serious side effects may include QT prolongation. It is unclear if use during pregnancy or breastfeeding is safe. Hydroxyzine works by blocking the effects of histamine. It is a first-generation antihistamine in the piperazine family of chemicals.

Atarax® Hydroxyzine Tablet is used to treat anxiety and helps to get relaxed before or after surgery. It is also used to treat symptoms of skin allergy like itching, swelling, and rashes in conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis.

Atarax® Hydroxyzine Tablet should be taken with or without food. Take it exactly as your doctor has prescribed. The dose and how often you take it depends on what you are taking it for. Your doctor will decide how much you need to improve your symptoms. Take it for as long as it is prescribed for you. In case, you have missed any doses, take the next dose as soon as you remember it. However, you should never take a double dose.

The most common side effects of this medicine include sedation, nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, and constipation. If these bother you or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them. You must avoid driving or attention-seeking activity while on treatment.

Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have heart problems or have high blood pressure, have liver or kidney problems. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, or breastfeeding. Your doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking as many of these may make this medicine less effective or change the way it works. Generally, it is advised to avoid alcohol while on treatment.

Atarax® Hydroxyzine Tablet will therefore help you go about your daily activities more easily and be more productive. Keep taking this medicine even if you feel well. Stopping suddenly can cause serious problems.

In Treatment of Skin conditions with inflammation & itching. Atarax® Hydroxyzine Tablet is effective in treating skin conditions with inflammation and itching such as eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis. It works by reducing the actions of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation of the skin. When used correctly it is a safe and effective treatment.
