What is Singulair® Chewable Tablets Montelukast 4mg / 5mg / 10mg?
Montelukast is used to treat and prevent asthma. It will decrease the symptoms and the number of acute asthma attacks. However, this medicine should not be used to relieve an asthma attack that has already started. This medicine is also used to prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) and treat symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever), including seasonal (short-term) or perennial (long-term) allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, runny nose, itching, or wheezing.
Singulair® Tablets
Singulair 10mg Tablet is a prescription medicine used for asthma prevention and for the treatment of allergy symptoms such as sneezing and runny nose. It reduces inflammation in the airways and makes breathing easier.
Singulair 10mg Tablet can be taken with or without food. Take it at the same time to get the most benefit. It is advised to have it 2 hours before exercise if you have exercise-induced asthma. It should be taken as your doctor’s advice. The dose and how often you take it to depend on what you are taking it for. Your doctor will decide how much you need to improve your symptoms. Swallow or chew the tablets whole with a drink of water. You should take this medicine for as long as it is prescribed for you. It does not cure sudden breathing problems, so always carry a medicated inhaler with you.
It is a generally safe medicine with few common side effects including nausea, vomiting, headache, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. If these bother you or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them. Generally, you should avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you have ever had severe liver problems. Your doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking as many of these may make this medicine less effective or change the way it works. You must inform your doctor about pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Singulair® Chewable Tablets
Give Singulair 5mg Chewable Tablet to your child at a fixed time before or after food in the prescribed dose, time, and way. You may need to give it to your child for a few weeks before it starts to prevent asthma attacks. For asthma, prefer giving Singulair 5mg Chewable Tablet in the evening or 2 hours before physical activity. For allergy, it is best to give it in the evening, depending upon the time of onset of symptoms. In case your child has both, prefer giving it in the evening. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking this medicine, give the same dose again, but skip it if it’s already time for the next dose.
Your child may start to feel better after a few regular doses. However, you must still complete the prescribed dose to ensure maximum benefit. Moreover, stopping the medicine abruptly may worsen your child’s condition. This medicine may cause some minor and temporary side effects like fever, headache, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Usually, these episodes subside once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, in case these effects persist or start bothering your child, consult your child’s doctor without any delay.
Let your child’s doctor know if your child is already taking any medicines. Also, narrate your child’s complete medical history, including any prior episodes of allergy, heart problem, blood disorder, vascular disorders, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung anomaly, skin disorder, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. This information is critical for dose alterations and in planning your child’s overall treatment.
