Nitazoxanide is an antiprotozoal medicine that treats infections caused by protozoa (single-cell parasites that live in moist places such as lakes, streams, and soil). Nitazoxanide is used to treat diarrhea caused by Giardia or Cryptosporidium. These conditions are sometimes called “Traveler’s diarrhea.” Nitazoxanide is used in adults and children who are at least 1 year old.

Nitazoxanide is a broad-spectrum thiazolide antiparasitic agent that is approved by the FDA for the treatment of Cryptosporidium parvum and Giardia duodenalis infections in children and adults. Nitazoxanide is rapidly metabolized to its active metabolite, tizoxanide, and has in vitro antiviral activity against a range of viruses, including influenza viruses, hepatitis B and C viruses, norovirus, rotavirus, Ebola virus, Middle East respiratory syndrome.

What is Nizonide® Tablets / Suspension?

Nizonide is an antiparasitic medication, used in the treatment of diarrhea and worm infections. It inhibits the growth of the parasite and thus treats your infection. Nizonide should be used in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. It should be taken with food, preferably at a fixed time. Avoid skipping any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Simply take the next dose as planned.

Nitazoxanide may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. Nitazoxanide is an antiparasitic medication. It inhibits the production of certain chemicals and substances essential for energy metabolism and the growth of the parasite.

Nizonide Oral Suspension is an antiparasitic medication that is used in the treatment of diarrhea and worm infections in children. It inhibits the growth of the parasite thereby treating the infection. Nizonide Oral Suspension can be given orally, either before or after food. Prefer giving it after food to prevent chances of stomach upset in your child and to enable better absorption of Nizonide Oral Suspension. The usually prescribed frequency is two times a day. However, this may vary depending upon the type and severity of the infection as well as your child’s body weight and age. Therefore, stick to the dose, time, and way as prescribed by the doctor. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of intake, repeat the same dose but never double up the dose if it is time for the next dose.
