What is Doxycycline Doxt-SL® Capsule?

Doxt-SL® Antibiotic Capsule is a combination medicine that is used to treat various types of bacterial infections. It prevents the growth of the microorganisms that cause the infection. It also prevents diarrhea which may occur as a side effect of this medicine.

Doxycycline is used to treat many different bacterial infections, such as acne, urinary tract infections, intestinal infections, respiratory infections, eye infections, gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, periodontitis (gum disease), and others. Doxycycline is also used to treat blemishes, bumps, and acne-like lesions caused by rosacea. It will not treat facial redness caused by rosacea. Some forms of doxycycline are used to prevent malaria, treat anthrax, or treat infections caused by mites, ticks, or lice.

Doxt-SL® Antibiotic Capsule is a medicine and it is advised to take it as per the doctor’s advice. It can be taken with or without food, but it must be taken at a fixed time to ensure better efficacy. Do not consume more than the recommended dose, as this may have harmful effects on your body. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. The course of the treatment must be completed even if you feel better. Sudden discontinuation of the treatment may affect the potency of the medicine.

Some common side effects of this medicine are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, etc. If any of the side effects get aggravated, you must consult your doctor immediately. If you experience any allergic reaction (rashes, itching, swelling, shortness of breath, etc.), you must seek immediate medical help.

It stops the growth of the bacteria causing the infection and clears the infection. It also helps treat as well as prevent diarrhea that may occur due to the use of this medicine or due to stomach/gut(intestine) infections.
Take it for as long as prescribed by the doctor and avoid skipping doses. This will make sure that all bacteria are killed and they do not become resistant.

Warnings before taking this medicine

You should not take doxycycline if you are allergic to any tetracycline antibiotics such as demeclocycline, minocycline, tetracycline, or tigecycline.

Children younger than 8 years old should use doxycycline only in cases of severe or life-threatening conditions. This medicine can cause permanent yellowing or gray of the teeth in children.

Using doxycycline during pregnancy could harm the unborn baby or cause permanent tooth discoloration later in the baby’s life.

To make sure doxycycline is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had liver disease, kidney disease, asthma or sulfite allergy, increased pressure inside your skull; or if you also take isotretinoin, seizure medicine, or a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin).

If you are using doxycycline to treat chlamydia, your doctor may test you to make sure you do not also have gonorrhea, another sexually transmitted disease.

Taking this medicine during pregnancy may affect tooth and bone development in the unborn baby. Taking doxycycline during the last half of pregnancy can cause permanent tooth discoloration later in the baby’s life. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or if you become pregnant while using this medicine.

Doxycycline can make birth control pills less effective. Ask your doctor about using non-hormonal birth control (condom, diaphragm with spermicide) to prevent pregnancy.

Doxycycline can pass into breast milk and may affect bone and tooth development in a nursing infant. The extent of absorption is unknown. Do not breastfeed while you are taking this medicine.

Children should not use this medicine. Doxycycline can cause permanent yellowing or gray of the teeth in children younger than 8 years old.

Children should use doxycycline only in cases of severe or life-threatening conditions such as anthrax or Rocky Mountain spotted fever. The benefit of treating a serious condition may outweigh any risks to the child’s tooth development.
