Dasatinib is used to treat Philadelphia chromosome positive chronic myeloid leukemia (Ph+ CML) in adults and children. It is also used to treat Ph+ CML and Philadelphia chromosome positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL) in adults after other medicines (eg, imatinib) or treatments did not work well.

Dasatinib is also used in combination with chemotherapy to treat newly diagnosed Ph+ ALL in children 1 year of age and older. Leukemia is a type of cancer where the body makes too many abnormal white blood cells. It belongs to the general group of medicines known as antineoplastics or cancer medicines. It interferes with the growth of cancer cells, which are eventually destroyed by the body.

What is Daslemia® Dasatinib Tablet?

Dasatinib, sold under the brand name Sprycel among others, is a targeted therapy medication used to treat certain cases of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Specifically it is used to treat cases that are Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+).

Common adverse effects include low white blood cells, low blood platelets, anemia, swelling, rash, and diarrhea. Severe adverse effects may include bleeding, pulmonary edema, heart failure, and prolonged QT syndrome. Use during pregnancy may result in harm to the baby. It is a tyrosine-kinase inhibitor and works by blocking a number of tyrosine kinases such as Bcr-Abl and the Src kinase family.

Dasatinib was approved for medical use in the United States and in the European Union in 2006. It is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines. Dasatinib is a type of targeted cancer drug. It is also known by its brand name Sprycel. You might have it as a treatment for:

  • chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML)
  • acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) which is Philadelphia chromosome positive, when other treatments are no longer working

It is also being used in clinical trials for other types of cancer.

Dasatinib is a type of drug called a cancer growth blocker. It works by blocking particular proteins on cancer cells that encourage the cancer to grow. This can help shrink the cancer or stop it growing. Daslemia Tablet is an anti-cancer medication. It works by blocking the action of the abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps to stop or slow the spread of cancer cells.

Daslemia® Dasatinib Tablet is used in the treatment of blood cancer (chronic myeloid leukaemia). It is used in patients whose disease could not be treated with other medications for leukaemia or who cannot take these medications because of side effects.

Daslemia® Dasatinib Tablet can be taken with or without food, but try to have it at the same time every day to get the most benefits. Your doctor will decide what dose is necessary and how often you need to take it. This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. You should take it exactly as your doctor has advised. Taking it in the wrong way or taking too much can cause very serious side effects. It may take several weeks or months for you to see or feel the benefits but do not stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to.

Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and rash are some common side effects of this medicine. In some cases, it may cause increased heartbeat and low or high blood pressure, if it happens consult with your doctor. Your doctor might check your blood pressure regularly. It is advised to avoid antacid intake within 2 hours of taking this medicine. This medicine may reduce the number of blood cells in your blood, thereby, increasing the susceptibility to infections. Regular blood tests are required to check your blood cells.

Many other medicines can affect, or be affected by, this medicine so let your healthcare team know all medications you are using. This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. You must avoid driving if you experience dizziness or blurred vision during treatment.

You should avoid drinking alcohol while having this treatment and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
