What is Salytar® ointment?

Salytar® ointment is a combination together of 3 active and powerful substances, which prevents the development of side effects in the form of irritation. Salytar Ointment is the standard treatment for psoriasis of the skin and scalp. Some minor local side effects of the ointment may appear: irritation, burning, redness, dryness, peeling. Salytar Ointment contains Salicylic Acid, precipitated Sulphur, and coal tar which is exclusively formulated for the treatment of Psoriasis and other skin conditions associated with scaling and inflammation. It quickly relieves the irritating and unsightly symptoms of psoriasis.

Indications for Salytar ointment

Psoriasis of the scalp, seborrhea of the scalp, seborrheic dermatitis, seborrheic eczema, chromophytosis, dermatoses, developing on the background of the increased function of the sebaceous glands of the skin;

Coal Tar controls and reduces inflammation and itching. Salicylic Acid helps in the removal of excessive skin build-up. Precipitated Sulphur prevents drying and helps in fast healing.

Salytar ointment reduces inflammation – reduces itching and redness, clears excess scale – softens and removes scale, reduces cell proliferation – assists in the restoration of skin to its normal condition, also re-moisturizes and repairs affected skin tissue.

Salytar Ointment is very effective in the control of the scaling of seborrhoea, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and psoriasis of the scalp.

Key ingredients of  Salytar® ointment

Coal tar – consists of 10000 components (phenol, toluene, xylene, and other organic acids, of which only half is revealed). Coal tar is used on the skin to treat the itching, scaling, and flaking due to skin conditions such as psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis. Coal tar belongs to a class of drugs known as keratoplastics. It works by causing the skin to shed dead cells from its top layer and slow down the growth of skin cells. This effect decreases scaling and dryness. Coal tar can also decrease itchiness from these skin conditions.

Salicylic acid – has pronounced anti-inflammatory, keratolytic properties and helps soften and remove psoriasis crusts, thereby facilitates access and the impact of coal tar and sulfur in the skin. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic (peeling agent). Salicylic acid causes shedding of the outer layer of the skin. Salicylic acid topical (for the skin) is used in the treatment of acne, dandruff, seborrhea, or psoriasis, and to remove corns, calluses, and warts. Salicylic acid topical can cause a rare but serious allergic reaction or severe skin irritation. Stop using this medicine and get emergency medical help if you have: hives, itching; difficult breathing, feeling light-headed; or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. You should not use salicylic acid topical if you are allergic to it.

Precipitated sulfurreduces itching and exhibits anti-parasitic, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, and keratoplasty properties.

    I love this ointment. If you have dry, cracked heels (and who doesn’t in the summer as a result of wearing sandals?), this will soften them within just a few days. I also have a callous along with the ball of my foot near my big toe that can become cracked and painful. This ointment not only provides relief but also helps prevent future cracks. I keep a tube on my bedside table and apply the cream after I crawl into bed. I don’t even wear socks. I first discovered this at a spa after I had a pedicure. The girl recommends it, and I’ve been a fan since. A strange side note: I walked through a backyard in sandals earlier in the summer and ended up with almost 20 itchy bites on both feet. I woke up in the middle of the night, crazy with itch. I tried 2 different topical products I had on hand that did nothing to relieve the itch. In desperation, I grabbed my tube of salytar and rubbed the ointment all over the bites. Within a few minutes, the itch was gone. Be sure to use the MEDICATED salytar ointment from okdermo, I only trust them.

    This product WORKS! My pedicure at recommended it to me for my very dry, cracked heels. It changes my feet overnight. The one downside is it smells very medicinal and is impossible to get off your hands. I put a ziplock bag over my hand when I put it on (a lazy version of a latex glove).
